Transluzent

A transition is usually understood to be a change that becomes visible in changes to the body. However, a transition is more than that. It can be a change that only takes place on the inside. It can be a growth and a development towards becoming the person you are. Around 60,000 to 100,000 trans* people live in Germany. Every transition is individual. People like Rasmus, Yona and Victoria, who cannot identify with the gender they were assigned at birth, fight for their right to exist in a society in which they appear to be invisible. Categorizing other people into gender roles is an earthly phenomenon of the adult world. You usually only notice that you are doing it when you meet people who fall out of the socially established categories. The need to be able to categorize people is nothing to be surprised about. It is part of the infrastructure of the German language to differentiate between things and people as female and male. People like Victoria and Yona, who cannot identify with these two options, are forced to find new terms. However, these are not socially recognized. A photo reportage that accompanies three young people through their transition for a few months.
